THE FINAL FORM & ITS CONSTRUCTION
The 5 attributes of a Mermaid that i chose were :
- Mysterious
- Fluid
- Texture
-Feminine
- Oyster Pearl
I looked at all the different forms that i made and tried to relate each form with the 5 words and the one that suited the most were the following two :

I looked at all the different forms that i made and tried to relate each form with the 5 words and the one that suited the most were the following two :
The form i chose is the second one because its shape makes it a little mysterious, it is feminine as it has many curves, its also fluid because it looks like waves. The depth of it shows mystery as if theres something more it to it just like an oyster which with a pearl and the up and down deep carvings will give a sense of a little bit of texture.
First i thought of making my final form with thermcol, it took a day just to get the outer shape right. While beginning to make the deep waves i realised that the thermocol could break easily therefore i stopped working with it. |
My teacher then suggested me to work with POP. I had never worked with it earlier so i was quite excited. I got plywood sheets, with the guidance of my teacher i made a box with it and made the POP paste as well and poured it inside.
I kept it to dry for 3 days, on the 4th day it was still wet with a lot of moisture in it so i i kept it in the sun for another day, after that i checked it again and it wasn't solid so i left it out for 2 more days and the POP still wasn't hard enough for me to construct my form. The reason for this was the air circulation. Sometimes the air circulation not being right, the POP doesn't set.
